The discovery of insecticides

In the past, during the second war a famous quimical scientist, Paul Muller, discovered a molecule (DDT) that had used in the war to control mites that transfer disease as malaria and tifo. However, this use was only the first one for this molecule, and the second application was discovered too, so that appeared the insecticides. Surprisingly, the second function was more important than the first, because the insecticides since discovered have used a lot of in crops to control pests insects. In addition, the discoverer of insecticides won the Nobel Premium in 1948, despite its efficiency, the American biologist Rachel Carson, denounced in her book “Silent Spring” that molecule caused diseases such as cancer and interfere with wildlife causing such an increase in mortality of birds. In the end, we didn’t known what consequences could this quimical substance was influence our lives until today.

My Serendipty story is about Gianne Albertoni. She was discovered as a model when she was only 13 years old. She was in Sao Paulo ridding a bike at Ibirapuera park when a photographer, called Sergio Duarte, saw her. He stayed enchanted by her beauty and showed to the world her pictures. After four months, she was working abroad. Now a day, she is a famous model.

Great work August and Regiane. It's always good to learn about things we didn't know.
